Avcıkoru Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2011, the 649-hectare Avcıkoru Nature Park is located at the Avcıkoru and Madenler localities on the border of Istanbul's Şile and Çekmeköy districts, and takes its name from the nearby village. With its rich flora and fauna, it stands out for its broad-leaved forest cover that offers a breath of fresh air right next to the megacity; pedunculate and sessile oaks, Anatolian chestnut, beech, hornbeam and laurel trees make up the park's green mantle. The park's wildlife is quite diverse. In addition to mammals such as roe deer, wild boar, red squirrel, jackal, fox and marten, numerous bird species such as chukar partridge, short-toed snake eagle, sparrowhawk, buzzard, kestrel and falcon live in the area. This richness makes the park a pleasant route for hiking and birdwatching. Easily reached from within Istanbul, the park lies on the left side of the road once you take the Şile motorway from Üsküdar or via the ring road, pass Ömerli and reach the Alemdağ-Şile road. Buses 139 and 139A departing from Üsküdar also pass in front of the park. Day recreation, walking and tour routes as well as a caravan camping area are offered to visitors.
