Bendimahi Deltası Sulak Alanı
The Bendimahi Delta is a 9,151-hectare wetland of national importance located in the Muradiye district of Van, at the northeastern tip of Lake Van. Stretching from Muradiye to Lake Van, the delta was placed under protection in 2016 and has stood out as one of the most important wetlands of the lake basin. In the area, where reed beds are widespread, 41 plant species are found. The real richness, however, lies hidden in aquatic life: it hosts 5 fish species, two of them endemic, reptiles and amphibians, and a dense bird presence. The 170 bird species recorded turn the delta into an extraordinary spot for bird watching. The delta is an important breeding, feeding and sheltering area for endangered waterbirds such as the common pochard, ferruginous duck and white-headed duck. Welcoming visitors within the scope of nature tourism, the area allows day walks, picnicking and photo safaris. The Bendimahi Delta is 12 km from Muradiye, 30 km from Erciş and 70 km from Van city center; access is possible by private car or by the municipal buses of the surrounding districts.
