Büyükada Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2011 and covering 4.45 hectares, Büyükada Nature Park is located on Büyükada, the island it is named after, in Istanbul's Adalar district. Its Mediterranean-style vegetation, composed of species such as Turkish red pine, stone pine, Judas tree, oak, strawberry tree and laurel, offers a tranquil natural atmosphere unique to the island. Mammals such as wild boar, squirrel, fox, hedgehog and hare, along with magpies, sparrows and crows, can be observed in the area. With its commanding position overlooking the sea, the park is suitable for day visits and nature walks. It contains picnic areas, a beach, sports fields, a pool, a country restaurant, a country café and kiosks. Owing to the island's restrictions on motor vehicle use, exploring on foot, by electric motorcycle or by rental bicycle blends in with the area's natural quiet. After reaching Büyükada by the ferries departing from Istanbul's Sirkeci, Kabataş, Kadıköy, Bostancı and Kartal piers, the park is reached within a short distance.
