Çamdüzü (Şehitlik) Tabiat Parkı
Located within the boundaries of Tosmurlu Neighborhood in Mersin's Silifke district, stretching along the inner Taurus belt of the Mediterranean, the 5.73-hectare Çamdüzü (Şehitlik) Nature Park gained nature park status in 2011. Officially named Şehitlik Nature Park, the area is popularly known as Çamdüzü and takes its name from the Cyprus Martyrs' Memorial directly opposite it. This memorial forest, established in memory of the soldiers who fell in the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, makes the park one of the rare spots combining natural and memorial value. Turkish red pine, the main tree species, is complemented by Syrian juniper, myrtle, oak, and willow and fig along the stream banks; the reed beds and herbaceous communities around the streams offer small-scale ecosystem diversity. Small maquis mammals such as hare, fox, marten and hedgehog live in the area, along with songbirds and seasonal migrants. The park is a small-scale rest stop suitable for day-use open-air activities and visits to the memorial. The most rewarding visiting seasons are spring and autumn. The park, 6.5 km from Silifke and 11 km from Taşucu, is reached via the Silifke-Gülnar highway; public transport is also possible with the minibuses operating on the Silifke-Gülnar and Silifke-Gökbelen lines.
