Değirmenburnu Tabiat Parkı
The 12.28-hectare Değirmenburnu Nature Park, declared in 2011, is located on Heybeliada in the Adalar district of Istanbul. It takes its name from the windmill that was used as a flour mill until the end of the 19th century and also served as a watchtower for security purposes. The dominant tree species in the area is Turkish red pine; stone pine, Mediterranean laurel, Atlas cedar, Judas tree and Mediterranean cypress also enrich the vegetation. Mammals such as squirrels, hedgehogs and rabbits, along with various bird species, live in the park. Open for day use, the park has picnic areas, a children's playground, a bicycle rental point, an artificial turf pitch, a country restaurant and a country café. On the forest road passing through the middle of the park, one can walk or ride a bicycle. At Değirmen Beach in the north of the area, it is possible to swim in the sea with changing rooms, showers, sunbeds and umbrellas available. Heybeliada is reached by ferry, sea bus or motorboat from Kabataş, Kadıköy, Bostancı, Maltepe and Kartal. From the pier, a short walk of about 400 meters to the right leads to the park.
