Dokuz Kardeşler Çamı Tabiat Anıtı
The Dokuz Kardeşler Pine Natural Monument is a 465-square-meter protected area declared in 1994 in Karacahöyük village, in the Çerkeş district of Çankırı. Estimated to be about 200 years old, the monument pine has a striking formation of nine branches rising from a single trunk, which gave it the name Dokuz Kardeşler, and it is one of the rare monument pines of the inner Black Sea belt. Within the pine-dominated forest there are fir, beech, oak, and hornbeam trees, along with herbaceous plants such as rhododendron and blackberry. The surroundings are home to mammals such as bear, roe deer, wolf, and wild boar, as well as woodcock, falcon, owl, and migratory bird species. Using the forest roads, visitors can enjoy botanical tours, nature walks, photo safaris, scenery viewing, and birdwatching. The monument, about 92 kilometers from the Çankırı city center, is reached via Çerkeş to Karacahöyük village; the final 1 kilometer from the village to the tree is a dirt road. The best season is May to October.
