Erdemli Çamlığı (Talat Göktepe) Tabiat Parkı
In the Erdemli district of Mersin, south of the D-400 highway and overlooking the Mediterranean coast, Erdemli Çamlığı (Talat Göktepe) Nature Park, with its area of 26.14 hectares, was declared in 2011. The park is dedicated to the memory of Forest Enterprise Director Talat Göktepe, who lost his life in 1994 while responding to the forest fire on the Gelibolu Peninsula. In the park, which represents a Mediterranean coastal ecosystem characterized by dense Turkish red pine forests, stone pine, sandalwood tree, myrtle, laurel and carob are found. Species such as the brown hare, red fox, marten and Mediterranean tortoise are on record; the coastal strip has Caretta caretta nesting potential. Despite its small surface area, the park is one of the region's busiest in-park camping facilities, with a 250-tent-capacity camping area and caravan pitches. It offers infrastructure for 600 visitors with WC, fountain, shower, controlled campfire and restaurant; pitching a tent under the pine grove overlooking the sea is the region's typical summer holiday format. The park, 37 km from Mersin and 5 km from the Erdemli center, is easily reached by city minibus lines, private vehicle and tour buses. The best season is between May and October. The park is open to visits every day between 08:00 and 20:00. Entry is charged: pedestrian entry is 60 TL per day and car entry 180 TL; a tent pitch inside the park is 250 TL per day, and a caravan pitch with electricity 450 TL per day.
