Gökçeada Lagünü Sulak Alanı
The 3,491-hectare Gökçeada Lagoon, located in Çanakkale's Gökçeada district, is a wetland of national importance and was designated in 2019. This island lagoon at Turkey's westernmost point hosts rich vegetation characteristic of coastal wetlands. In the area, 184 taxa belonging to 53 families have been identified, with the most species recorded from the daisy, grass and legume families. The lagoon stands out especially for its bird presence; alongside species such as the stork and the Sandwich tern, bats are also seen in the region. In this respect, Gökçeada Lagoon is a peaceful nature spot well suited to birdwatching. Access to Gökçeada is provided by ferries departing from Kabatepe Harbor on the Gallipoli Peninsula; sea bus services also operate from Çanakkale.
