Gölpınar Tabiat Parkı
Located in the Karaköprü district of Şanlıurfa, the 464.6-hectare Gölpınar Nature Park was converted from a recreation area into a nature park in 2011, and its boundaries were expanded in 2020. Taking its name from the nearby Gölpınar neighborhood, the park, together with the surrounding settlements of Kızlar, Yusufkuyu and Güzelyurt, is a prominent green oasis in the steppe landscape of Southeastern Anatolia. Although the natural vegetation of Şanlıurfa is steppe, Gölpınar is the most important wooded area the province has. Afforested with Turkish red pine by the regional forestry directorate, the site has turned into a shady forest of trees averaging 60 years of age. Species such as red squirrel, fox, hedgehog, chukar partridge and turtle dove live in this cool forest. The park is about 11 km from Şanlıurfa city center and 35 km from the airport, and is reached via the road branching off at the 3rd kilometer of the Urfa-Diyarbakır highway. With nature walks, nature tours, cycling routes and a caravan camping area, it offers visitors open-air enjoyment.
