100. Yıl (Gümüşkum) Tabiat Parkı
Elevated to nature park status in 2011, the 23.82-hectare 100. Yıl (Gümüşkum) Nature Park, in the Mezitli district of Mersin, takes its name from the fine silver-colored sand of the Mediterranean coast. Known by the name coming from 100. Yıl Avenue at the park entrance, the area is more commonly referred to among locals as Gümüşkum. On the site, where Turkish red pine, stone pine, eucalyptus and Cyprus acacia intertwine with maquis elements, the natural vegetation typical of coastal dunes stands out. The area, where brown hare, red fox, Mediterranean tortoise and shorebirds can be seen, is ideal for beach use, nature walks and day-use open-air activities. With a capacity of 700 visitors and parking for 50 vehicles, it offers infrastructure suited to weekend crowds. The park is 10 km from Mersin city center, 4 km from Mezitli and 27 km from Erdemli, and can be reached from the south side of the D-400 highway, also by municipal buses and minibuses. The best season for sea and beach is May-October.
