Karasu Deltası Sulak Alanı
The Karasu Delta, stretching east of Lake Van in the Tuşba district of Van, is a wetland of national importance covering 339 hectares. The Zeve Martyrs' Cemetery is also located within the area; the site was registered in 2015 and its management plan was completed in 2017. The delta has remarkable biological diversity. Around 81 plant species grow in the area, and 133 bird species have been identified; in addition, three of the five fish species recorded are endemic, and many reptile, amphibian and mammal species shelter here. This rich fauna makes the delta a valuable spot for nature and wildlife observation. The Karasu Delta welcomes visitors as part of nature tourism; day hikes, picnicking and photo safaris are possible in the area. The delta is 20 km from Van city center and 15 km from Tuşba; the nearest settlement is Çitören Mahallesi, and access is by private car or neighborhood minibuses.
