Kazdağı Göknarı Tabiatı Koruma Alanı
The Kazdağı Fir Nature Conservation Area, within the boundaries of the Edremit district of Balıkesir, was placed under protection in 1988 over an area of 254.17 hectares on account of the geological and physical values of Kazdağı. The most important value of the area is the endemic and endangered Kazdağı fir (Abies nordmanniana subsp. equi-trojani). Alongside this rare fir, black pine and oriental beech constitute the main tree species of the forest. In this unique forest ecosystem with rich wildlife potential live species such as deer, roe deer, wild boar, bear, wolf and jackal. This untouched area, which has no facilities, offers an ideal setting for photo safaris, botanical excursions, nature walks and trekking. The area is reached from Edremit via the town of Zeytinli and the Mehmetalan neighborhood, along a mountain road of about 20 km.
