Kazdağı Milli Parkı
Kazdağı National Park, located in the Edremit district of Balıkesir in the south of the Biga Peninsula, was declared a national park in 1993. Covering an area of approximately 20,935 hectares, the park is remarkably rich in plant diversity and stands out with its unique scenery and viewpoints. The park is surrounded by forest areas to the north, east and west; to the south lie settlements and, below, the Gulf of Edremit. With an average elevation of 885 meters, the park's highest point is the 1,774-meter Karataş Tepe, while its lowest parts are the southwestern sections at sea level. Nature walks accompanied by an area guide, visits to Sarıkız Tepe and safari tours organized with private companies are the park's highlight experiences. The park, about 16 km from the Edremit district center and 90 km from Balıkesir, is reached via the E-87 highway. It is open to visitors through three main gates, chiefly the Yalama and Kışladağ entrance checkpoints.
