Kocaçay Deltası Sulak Alanı
Stretching near Yeniköy in the Karacabey district of Bursa, the 17,025-hectare Kocaçay Delta was declared a wetland of national importance in 2018. In this delta where terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems intertwine, the landscape is adorned with the Dalyan, Poyraz, and Arapçiftliği lakes and the surrounding flooded (longoz) forests of ash, alder, and willow. The delta's most precious feature is its flooded (longoz) forests, which are rare worldwide. These forests came into being when the sands carried by streams flowing into the sea formed barriers along the shore and closed off the stream mouths. In this area, which combines dune, maquis, and forest vegetation, live species such as the water lily, summer snowflake, and butcher's broom; this richness makes the delta highly significant in floristic terms. Ideal for nature walks among lakes, reed beds, and shaded forests, the area also offers the possibility of tent camping. The delta is reached from Karacabey by continuing in the direction of Bayramdere-Yeniköy.
