Sorkun Şelaleleri Tabiat Anıtı
Declared in 2017, the 50-hectare Sorkun Waterfalls Natural Monument is located in the Gerze district of Sinop, within the valley carved by the Sorkun Deresi. The area extends for about 2,300 meters, encompassing the steep valley slopes and the valley floor; along this line, 15 waterfalls large and small follow one another. Beech forests cover the valley; hornbeam, plane and oak accompany this cover. Enriched by species such as black pine, yew, juniper, cornelian cherry, rosehip, hazel and willow, the forest intertwines with the ecosystem of the flowing stream. Visitors have the chance to see the waterfalls one by one on nature walks arranged along the valley. The natural monument, 34 km from the Sinop city center and 23 km from the Gerze district center, is reached via the Sinop-Kastamonu and Sinop-Samsun highways; Sorkun Köyü, the nearest settlement to the area, is 3 km away.
