Anadolu Kestanesi Tabiat Anıtı
Located on the Gölcük Yaylası in the Ödemiş district of İzmir, the Anadolu Kestanesi Natural Monument is a small but valuable protected area of about 2.5 decares, declared in 1994. At this spot right next to the Gölcük Recreation Area, there are 18 monumental chestnut trees whose ages range from 500 to 700 years. With circumferences varying between 5 and 9.5 meters, diameters between 1.60 and 3 meters, and heights between 10 and 24 meters, these centuries-old trees bear the traces of their advanced age; hollows formed over time can be seen in their trunks. The monument, 19 km from Ödemiş center and 112 km from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, is reached by hiking in the cool environment of the plateau.
