Çatak Tabiat Parkı (Çorum)
The 294-hectare Çatak Nature Park, located within the boundaries of Çatak Village in the Merkez district of Çorum, on the foothills where the Black Sea Region opens onto Central Anatolia, was declared a nature park on June 8, 1984. This early date makes the park one of Turkey's oldest nature parks. Thanks to its extensive forest areas, scenic hills and slopes, rich vegetation and geological features, it has become Çorum's principal nature-getaway destination. The park is a transition belt where Black Sea inland forest species (beech, black pine, oak, hornbeam) meet Central Anatolian steppe plants. Alongside mammals such as wild boar, red deer, roe deer, fox, marten and jackal, woodpeckers, rock partridges and large birds of prey passing through during migration periods complete this rich fauna. This diversity makes the park attractive for plant observers and nature photographers. With a capacity of 1,500 visitors and parking for 500 vehicles, the park is suitable for day use; it is ideal for picnics, hiking, cycling and scenic viewing. The best season is April to October, and the autumn leaf colors, especially in September-October, are worth seeing. It is about 22 km from Çorum city center.
