Gala Gölü Milli Parkı
Stretching between the Enez and İpsala districts of Edirne, Gala Lake National Park is a 5,923-hectare wetland paradise declared Turkey's 36th national park in 2005. The lakes, reed beds and surrounding forests host a total of 1,043 living species. The park is one of Turkey's richest spots, especially for birdwatchers. 232 bird species have been recorded here, and rare, conservation-priority species such as the white-headed duck, white-tailed eagle, osprey and Dalmatian pelican live in these waters. Fish species such as eel, pikeperch, carp and pike are found in the lake; some of the 511 plant species in the surroundings are endemics unique to this region. Offering the chance to observe hundreds of waterbirds together depending on the season, the park is an ideal route for nature tours, photography and scenic viewing.
