Handüzü Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2014, the 444.7-hectare Handüzü Nature Park is located in the Handüzü and Arapdüzü localities of Rize's Güneysu district. Reflecting the humid forest ecosystem of the Eastern Black Sea, the park has a rich flora and fauna; among seed plants, 256 different plant species belonging to 56 families have been identified. Elm, maple, hornbeam, and linden accompany the forests formed by beech, chestnut, spruce, and alder. In the understory spread rhododendron; the symbol of the Black Sea; along with elderberry, cherry laurel, and bilberry as well as various ferns. Within this green cover, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, and waterfall climbing are possible; the area is also suitable for angling. With its tent camping area, day-use recreation facilities, and scenic viewpoints, the park lends itself both to short breaks and to nature camps. The park is most often reached via the Güneysu district to the north, along a concrete road of about 10 km. Its distance to Rize-Artvin Airport is 60 km.
