Kartaltepe Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2014, Kartaltepe Nature Park is an area of 254 hectares located in the Süleymanpaşa district of Tekirdağ, on the Ganos Mountain range overlooking the Sea of Marmara. Thanks to its high elevation, it offers a broad panorama in which forest, sea and island can be viewed together; with its proximity to the city center and its favorable slopes, it is one of the favorite spots for local people and residents of the surrounding provinces. In the park, forest, steppe and meadow vegetation intertwine. Pedunculate oak, Hungarian oak, prickly juniper, common hornbeam and oriental beech are among the dominant species. In the fauna, red fox, badger, wild hare and forest dormouse stand out; hedgehogs, mole rats and various reptile and frog species also live in the area. The day-use areas feature picnic units, a prayer room, WC, fountains, children's playgrounds and local product stands. Visitors can walk, run, cycle and go on photo safaris; in the suitable season they can join paragliding activities. The nature park is reached from the city center of Tekirdağ via the Mürefte-Barbaros road, passing through the settlements of Barbaros, Kumbağ and Yeniköy.
