Kasatura Körfezi Tabiatı Koruma Alanı
The 315-hectare Kasatura Körfezi Nature Conservation Area, placed under protection in 1988, is located on the Black Sea coast in the Vize district of Kırklareli. Home to Thrace's only black pine forest, this unique area is set in a broad valley at the mouth of two small rivers winding through heathland, at the tip where the Istranca Mountains descend toward the southeast. Forming a rare ecosystem with its dune system, coppice forest cover and rich flora, the area is recognized as an important plant area. Alongside black pine, Hungarian oak, sessile and Turkey oak, oriental hornbeam, ash, beech, maple, linden and alder are found together here. The area harbors a healthy population of the endangered roe deer, and wild boar, wolf, jackal, marten, fox, badger and hare also live here. Ideal for nature photography and nature walks, the conservation area is 48 km from Vize, near Kıyıköy, and about 180 km from Istanbul. Entry is free of charge; the area can be visited every day between 09:00 and 19:00.
