Sarımsaklı Tabiat Parkı
Located in the Ayvalık district of Balıkesir in the north of the Aegean Region, Sarımsaklı Nature Park gained recreation area status in 2003 and was declared a nature park in 2011. The area, entirely classified as state forest, is a small but special site lying within a 1st Degree Natural Protected Area. The park's dominant species is the Turkish red pine; eucalyptus trees raised by planting also accompany the area. Alongside the tree frog and birds such as the goshawk, little owl, buzzard, goldfinch and kestrel, mammals such as foxes, hedgehogs, European rabbits, martens, squirrels and weasels can be observed. Welcoming its visitors with country houses, a country café, a kiosk and service units, the park offers seaside tourism, hiking, wildlife watching and limited overnight stay options. Located 7 km from the İzmir-Çanakkale main road and 10 km from the Ayvalık district center, the area's nearest airport is Balıkesir Koca Seyit Airport, about 50 km away.
