Sarısu Ovası Sulak Alanı
Spread over a vast area of 10,092 hectares in the Patnos district of Ağrı, the Sarısu Ovası Wetland was formed by spring waters emerging from the northern foothills of Süphan Dağı, Turkey's fourth-highest mountain, gathering on the plain. This shallow wetland ecosystem, formerly known as Göri Sazlığı, lies at the lowest point of the plain at an elevation of 1,840 meters and is almost entirely covered with lush reed beds and meadows. Open water surfaces appear in the deep sections where bottom springs emerge; these spots, known as the bottomless lake and the small lake, add a distinct visual richness to the area. The wet meadows surrounding the reed beds are of great importance for local animal husbandry, and the area lives intertwined with the twelve settlements surrounding it. Suitable for birdwatching, photo safaris and wildlife observation, the area has no facilities whatsoever; it is a steppe wetland explored in its natural state. It is 15 km as the crow flies from Lake Van, Turkey's largest lake, 21 km from the Patnos district center and 80 km from the provincial center of Ağrı.
