Malazgirt Meydan Muharebesi Tarihi Milli Parkı
The 238-hectare Malazgirt Meydan Muharebesi Historical National Park, located within the boundaries of the Danişmentgazi neighborhood in the Malazgirt district of Muş, was declared in 2018. It takes its name from the Battle of Malazgirt, fought on 26 August 1071, which opened the gates of Anatolia to the Turks. The park has a rich flora and fauna. The vegetation consists mainly of broad-leaved and coniferous trees; species such as Anatolian chestnut, Scots pine, blue spruce, silver birch, plane, poplar and weeping willow give the area its character. The fauna includes mammals such as the fox, hedgehog and mole, as well as bird species such as the sparrowhawk, buzzard, kestrel, falcon, magpie and European bee-eater. The Malazgirt district is easily reached by road. The 'Malazgirt Zafer Alanı / Tarihi Milli Park' signs begin before you enter the district center; after leaving the D-300 highway and driving 2-3 km along a wide, flat asphalt side road, you arrive at the park's main entrance gate. There is a large car park for those arriving by vehicle. The area is suitable for day trips offering history and nature together. The park is open to visitors between 08:00 - 17:00 on weekdays and 08:00 - 18:00 at weekends. Entry is charged: pedestrian entry is 60 TL per day and car entry is 180 TL per day. The area offers facilities such as toilets, a fountain, a viewing terrace, a children's playground and a food-and-drink point; hiking, cycling and nature excursions are among the main activities.
