Tol Gölü Sulak Alanı
Registered in 2017 as a Wetland of National Importance, the 1,414-hectare Tol Lake Wetland lies within the boundaries of Tol Mahallesi in the Bala district of Ankara. A small, shallow lake on the floodplain of the Balaban Stream, Tol Lake stretches across a plain surrounded by elevations such as Çayır Tepe, Kepir Tepe, Topaktaş Tepe and Abazlıbel Tepe. In the area, 91 plant species have been identified, three of which have proven to be endemic. The most striking of these is the critically endangered Yanardöner (Sevgi Çiçeği), previously known only from a narrow area in Gölbaşı; Tol Lake is the second known habitat of this rare species. Reed, water crowfoot, oleaster and black poplar form the aquatic vegetation surrounding the lake. With its reed beds and wet meadows, the area is well suited to birdwatching and nature observation; it is about 55 km from the Ankara city center and 10 km from Bala district.
