Abant Gölü Milli Parkı
Located about 33 km southwest of Bolu, between the spurs of the Abant and Keremali mountain ranges, Abant Gölü National Park is one of the most beloved nature stops of the Western Black Sea region with its 1,262-hectare area. Placed under protection as a nature park in 1988, the site was elevated to national park status in 2022. At the heart of the area lies Lake Abant, a crater and barrier lake formed on the Abant Mountains. The lake's surroundings are covered with a rich forest of pine, fir, beech, oak, chestnut, hornbeam and wild fruit trees. The area is home to rare species such as the hazel dormouse unique to Abant and the Abant trout endemic to the lake; the forests also provide a suitable habitat for red deer. Walking and cycling routes around the lake, rowboat trips and scenic viewpoints attract visitors in every season. The park is reached via the Ömerler village turnoff at kilometer 203 of the Ankara-Istanbul D-100 highway.
