Dandindere Tabiatı Koruma Alanı
Located in the Emirdağ district of Afyonkarahisar, within the boundaries of the village of Çaykışla, the Dandindere Nature Conservation Area is known for its naturally grown Taurus cedars. The Taurus cedar, which generally spreads across the south and southwest of Turkey, forms here its last isolated community at its northernmost inland limit in the transition belt to the steppe of Inner Western Anatolia. With this characteristic, the area possesses the value of a rare natural resource. Declared a conservation area in 1994, the region spreads over sloping terrain with elevations ranging from 1,360 to 1,860 meters. In addition to cedar, species such as juniper, rockrose, Turkey oak and downy oak, milkvetch, mahaleb cherry and hawthorn complete the vegetation. Alongside foxes, jackals, wild boars, hares and beech martens, birds of prey such as kestrels, buzzards and booted eagles make up the region's rich wildlife. The area is reached via the asphalt road running from the Afyonkarahisar-Ankara highway to the town center of Emirdağ and from there to the village of Çaykışla. It is approximately 30 kilometers from the district center.
