Hatila Vadisi Milli Parkı
Located in the Eastern Black Sea region within the boundaries of Taşlıca Village in central Artvin, Hatila Valley National Park is a 16,944-hectare protected area declared in 1994. The V-shaped, narrow-floored and deep valley displays a kind of nature rarely seen in Turkey, with its striking geomorphological structure as well as its extraordinary botanical richness. Despite lying in the Black Sea region, the valley also harbors Mediterranean plant species and extends from the Çoruh Valley floor at 170 meters up to the 3,224-meter Kurt Dağı. In the vegetation, which changes with altitude, maquis species, pedunculate and sessile oak, Anatolian chestnut, beech and hornbeam are found together with Scots pine, Oriental spruce and Eastern Black Sea fir. The valley harbors mammals such as bear, fox, wild goat, marten and badger, songbirds and birds of prey, and the famous Hopa viper. The park, only 5 km from the center of Artvin, is a rich route for nature walks, photo safaris, wildlife observation and birdwatching.
