Honaz Dağı Milli Parkı
Rising in the Honaz district of Denizli, Honaz Mountain National Park is a protected area declared a national park in 1995 and later expanded to reach 9,429 hectares. The region's geographical location, topography and geological structure give the park an extraordinary botanical richness. The Büyük Menderes River flowing past its north and the broad Menderes Plain carry the Mediterranean climate and vegetation from the west; combined with steppe species from Central Anatolia, Honaz Mountain forms a boundary where the Mediterranean and Central Anatolian floras meet. Of the 964 plant species identified in the park, 122 are endemics unique to Turkey, and three of them grow only on Honaz Mountain. Rare species such as the Kasnak oak and Turkey oak are also present on the slopes of the Karanlıkdere Valley. Accessible from the Denizli-Muğla highway via the town of Cankurtaran or from the Honaz district, the park offers suitable routes for nature walks, photo safaris, day recreation and scenic viewing.
