Hürmetçi Sazlığı Sulak Alanı
Stretching about 13 km southwest of Kayseri, between the districts of Kocasinan, Hacılar and İncesu, Hürmetçi Sazlığı is a rich wetland ecosystem of reed beds, marshes and wet meadows. Mount Erciyes lies to its south and Sultan Sazlığı to its southwest. Its wide pastures are an area where livestock; water buffalo above all, along with cattle, sheep and goats; are grazed, and where free-roaming yılkı horses are tamed at certain times. Located on the Europe-Asia-Africa bird migration route, the area was declared a Wetland of International Importance in 2004 for meeting the Ramsar criteria. It appears in BirdLife International's Europe-wide classification of priority birds for conservation and on Turkey's list of Important Bird Areas. Some of the endangered species are seen here during migration, while others breed in this area. Ideal for birdwatching in migration periods, the reed beds are open to nature lovers who wish to watch wildlife and walk in the surrounding meadows.
