Şamlar Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2011, Şamlar Nature Park is located in the Arnavutköy district of Istanbul and takes its name from the Şamlar neighborhood in which it lies. The entire area of approximately 335 hectares is covered with forest and is home to a rich diversity of plants and animals. The coniferous forest formed by stone pine, Turkish red pine, black pine, and Syrian juniper is accompanied by broadleaved species such as downy oak, ash, Anatolian chestnut, hornbeam, and alder. Among maquis plants such as strawberry tree, laurel, heather, and rosehip, it is possible to observe foxes, hares, and squirrels together with birds such as buzzards, goldfinches, and magpies. Combining forest and a dam lake, the park offers suitable areas for hiking, cycling, angling, photo safari, and picnicking. It is reached by turning left at the Nokta location on the Gaziosmanpaşa road in the direction of Arnavutköy; by public transport, the 79C line stops at stations close to the park entrances.
