Sarıkamış-Allahuekber Dağları Milli Parkı
Covering the Sarıkamış Forests and the Allahuekber Mountains on the Erzurum-Kars border, the 22,520-hectare Sarıkamış-Allahuekber Mountains National Park was declared in 2004. It brings together two great values: the martyrs' memorials rising in memory of the soldiers who froze to death during the Sarıkamış Operation in the winter of 1914-1915, and a unique forest fabric where the Scots pine forms pure forests at the highest altitude in our country. Of the memorials located in the Allahuekber Mountains, the Allahuekber, Tekçam, Soğanlı and Dikenli Tabya martyrs' memorials are reached via stabilized roads. The vegetation formed by steppe oak, Scots pine, fragrant juniper and trembling aspen holds rich wildlife with species such as the Caucasian chiffchaff, vulture, eagle, hawk and kestrel. Monument and memorial visits, nature walks and birdwatching are the area's most prominent activities. From the town of Sarıkamış it is possible to reach the different use zones by private vehicle, heading toward the Allahuekber Mountains.
