Ağaçbaşı Tabiat Parkı (Giresun)
Declared in 2010, the 89.30-hectare Ağaçbaşı Nature Park is located within the boundaries of Kulakkaya Yaylası in the Dereli district of Giresun. One of the few nature parks registered as a pure spruce stand, the area is a typical example of the Eastern Black Sea spruce forest ecology. Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis) is the dominant species; the Eastern Black Sea fir and Scots pine complete this pure coniferous forest ecosystem. Roe deer, squirrels, woodpeckers and wild boar make up the wildlife of the area. The high altitude of Kulakkaya Yaylası makes the park suitable for mountain tourism and winter sports; in the winter months, the snow cover offers the opportunity for skiing. In the area, where hiking, cycling, photo safaris and scenic viewing are possible, 4 bungalows, a country restaurant, a prayer room, an amphitheater, a children's playground, roofed picnic tables, gazebos and viewing terraces provide comfort to visitors. The park, 38 km from Giresun and 30 km from Dereli, is reached via an asphalt road. As part of the Kulakkaya-Bektaş highland route, it is intertwined with the region's traditional honey production and highland culture; the best season is May to October.
