Asarlık Tepeler Tabiat Anıtı
Declared a nature monument in 1994, Asarlık Tepeler is a small but extraordinary area of 52 hectares stretching between the villages of Danışment and Oklalar in the Nallıhan district of Ankara. It displays one of the rare examples in Turkey of cuesta morphology, formed by the erosion of clay layers of differing resistance. Situated at an elevation of about 1,091 meters in the Central Anatolian climate zone, these unusual-looking hills are, with their geomorphological structure, a corner of nature valuable in both scientific and educational terms. Despite the small size of the area, its flora is remarkable: of the 141 taxa belonging to 37 families, 11 are endemic species unique to Turkey. Among them stands out the critically endangered milkvetch known as ala gaga geveni, which grows only in this area and on the nearby Sarıçalı Dağı. With this feature, the nature monument is one of the most important habitats of the species in the world. The area, 157 km from the center of Ankara and 21 km from the district center of Nallıhan, is reached by private car. The nearest settlement, Danişment Mahallesi, is only 1.5 km away as the crow flies.
