Kız Tepesi Tabiat Anıtı
Covering an area of 542 hectares in the Nallıhan district of Ankara, the Kız Tepesi Natural Monument was placed under protection in 2019 for its colorful soil structure. The brown and red tones arose from the oxidation of iron minerals, while the gray and dark gray tones were born of organic material deposited on an old lake bed. This riot of color turns the area into a veritable open-air palette for photographers. Presenting thick sedimentary sequences of an ancient lake, the natural monument is a valuable geological heritage that sheds light on the climate, tectonic movements, and living life of past eras; it has been the subject of numerous scientific studies by domestic and foreign researchers. The area is adjacent to the Nallıhan Bird Paradise and hosts endemic halophytic steppe plants such as Beysümbülü, Koca Soda, and Öldürgen. Reached by private vehicle, the natural monument is 109 km from the center of Ankara and 27 km from Nallıhan. The area is accessed via the Akçabayır road, which branches off the Ankara-Nallıhan (D140) highway at the Kaya Burnu locality.
