Beyşehir Gölü Milli Parkı
Declared a national park in 1993, the 82,156-hectare Beyşehir Gölü National Park embraces Central Anatolia's largest freshwater lake within the boundaries of Konya. Turkey's third-largest lake by surface area after Lake Van and Lake Tuz, Beyşehir is a center of attraction that has hosted many civilizations since ancient times. The Dedegöl Mountains, stretching along the eastern shore with a summit approaching three thousand meters, add a distinct beauty to the lake when viewed from the west. With its turquoise-blue waters, roughly 60 islands within it and the mountains surrounding it, the lake enchants nature lovers. Freshwater perch, carp, sarıbalık and çiçek fish live in its waters; pelicans, herons and wild ducks nest on the islands and shallow shores, and during migration periods various waterbirds stop by in flocks. Situated at the intersection of Central Anatolia, the Taurus and the mountains of Western Anatolia, the basin hosts a rich flora and fauna with its diverse habitats. In addition to trekking, hiking, cycling and birdwatching routes, rowboats and angling on the lakeshore await visitors.
