Ilgaz Dağı Milli Parkı
Declared in 1976, Ilgaz Mountain National Park stretches in the Western Black Sea Region within the Kızılırmak Basin, between the provincial boundaries of Kastamonu and Çankırı. Most of the roughly 1,118-hectare area lies on the Kastamonu side, and with elevations ranging from 1,600 to 2,070 meters the park offers a cool mountain atmosphere all year round. With its rich biodiversity, the park is one of Turkey's important nature conservation areas. Recognized as an Important Bird Area, Important Mammal Area and Important Plant Area, Ilgaz Mountain stands out with its flora and fauna harboring numerous endemic species. With its dense forests, scenic viewpoints and nature walking routes it welcomes visitors in every season; in the winter months it offers the opportunity to ski. The park, about 40 km from Kastamonu, 68 km from Çankırı and 200 km from Ankara, is easily reached by road.
