Ormanya Tabiat Parkı
Declared in 2011, Ormanya Nature Park, in the Kartepe district of Kocaeli, is an area highly suitable for hiking with its green fabric covered by fully closed, tall oak forests and its views opening onto Lake Sapanca. It presents a unique model that brings together the protection of natural life and day use. The upper layer is dominated by oak, along with hornbeam, beech, and linden; the lower layer contains strawberry tree, blackberry, heather, medlar, and rowan. The fauna includes birds such as woodpecker, nightingale, goldfinch, sparrowhawk, and buzzard, as well as hare, jackal, fox, wild boar, marten, and squirrel. The park has a large natural habitat where species such as red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, feral horse, and gazelle can be observed in their natural living areas; there is also a children's zoo with lemurs, alpacas, llamas, zebras, and exotic birds. The park is reached via the İzmit-Sakarya D-100 highway, following the nature park signs from the Uzuntarla neighborhood turnoff at the Kocaeli end of Lake Sapanca. The area has two country restaurants, an administrative building, a small mosque, toilets, and baby care rooms.
