İl Ormanı Tabiat Parkı
Located at the Uzunkum site in Sakarya's Sapanca district, İl Ormanı Nature Park was declared a nature park in 2011. Its area of about 103 hectares holds a rich presence of flora and fauna. The park's most important asset is its natural forest structure. Deciduous mixed oak and hornbeam forests, evergreen coniferous forests and forest clearings come together to present a very beautiful scene. Oak, common hornbeam, black pine, Turkish red pine, maritime pine and linden are the main tree species; they are accompanied by a rich understory with shrub species such as wild cornelian cherry, medlar, wild rose, hawthorn and blackberry. The park is open every day between 08:30 and 23:00; pedestrian entry is 60 TL per day and car entry is 180 TL. Tent camping is possible within the park. Well suited to nature walks, forest tours and cycling, the park is easily reached by leaving the Istanbul-Ankara Motorway at the Sapanca Junction and following Sakarya Caddesi, which runs parallel to the motorway, in the direction of Arifiye. Public transport is also available with the Sapanca-Kırkpınar-Kurtköy shared minibuses.
