Karakuyu Sazlıkları Sulak Alanı
The Karakuyu Reed Beds, located in Afyonkarahisar's Dinar district within the Büyük Menderes Basin, is a lake and shore ecosystem declared a wetland of national importance in 2019. The tectonic lake, at 950 meters above sea level, collects the basin's groundwater and is generally 1-3.5 meters deep. Most of the lake is covered with reeds, bulrushes and water lilies; this cover provides an ideal environment for birds to nest and hide. Its position on the transition line from the continental climate of the inner Aegean to the Mediterranean climate has given the area a rich plant diversity, and numerous endemic species have found a home here. Since the lake, fed by spring waters, does not freeze in winter, it becomes a natural refuge for birds in the cold months. At the site, which has a birdwatching tower, birdwatching, photo safaris and nature walks around the lake are possible. With its aesthetic flora and natural footpaths, it is one of the nature spots beloved by the people of Dinar. Karakuyu is reached on the Ankara-Antalya highway, on the right-hand side of the road about 10 km after the Dinar junction.
