Camili-Gorgit Tabiatı Koruma Alanı
Placed under protection in 1998, the Camili-Gorgit Nature Conservation Area is located in Artvin's Borçka district and hosts the largest natural old-growth forest ecosystems of the vast geography encompassing Europe and Central Asia. Each of the trees here is of monumental quality. The area, which has biosphere reserve status, is rich in biodiversity and is a gene conservation zone for the pure Caucasian bee breed. In these old forests formed by linden, chestnut and oriental spruce, species such as sparrowhawk, falcon, buzzard and bear trace the path of the wildlife. With its unspoiled nature and scientific value, the site carries unique potential for nature observation and research. The area, about 47 km from Borçka, is reached by following the Camili road through the villages of Aralık, Atanoğlu, Düzenli and Efeler.
