Kartaltepe Tabiat Parkı (Ankara)
Located at the Aşağı Çanlı locality in the Kızılcahamam district of Ankara, Kartaltepe Nature Park is a protected area of 93 hectares declared a nature park in 2011. Situated in the transition belt between Central Anatolia and the Black Sea, the park, with its semi-humid climate, offers a combination of lake and forest rarely seen in Ankara's interior. Most of the area is covered by mixed deciduous forests dominated by oak, hornbeam, beech and chestnut, while lakes fed by winter and spring precipitation form the aquatic ecosystem. Its adjacency to Soğuksu National Park enhances the park's faunal richness: wild boar, red fox, marten, red deer and jackal, as well as songbirds and raptors, and waterfowl around the lake, can be observed. Rowing boat trips and licensed fishing are possible in the lake section; the area is also suitable for day use for nature walks, scenic viewing and lakeside recreation. The park is 74 kilometers from the city center of Ankara and 7.5 kilometers from the Kızılcahamam district. It is reached by the road branching off to the northeast at the Kargasekmez locality at the 53rd kilometer of the Ankara-Istanbul highway. The most rewarding period is between May and October, while September-November is ideal for autumn colors. The park is open every day between 08:00 and 22:00. Entry is subject to a fee: pedestrian entry costs 60 TL per day and car entry 180 TL per day. Basic facilities such as toilets, parking, fountains and a viewing terrace are available.
